CHALLANGE:

Installation of a heating, cooling, and ventilation system in an office building with a manufacturing hall in Kokotów. Maintaining adequate air exchange in the building to ensure user comfort, as well as compensation for heat losses and gains.

SOLUTION:

The main objective of the project was to design a heating, cooling and ventilation system so that the building meets the standards and guidance for passive technology, which in the long run will reduce the cost of using it as opposed to the traditional construction of such buildings. Additionally, the building was equipped with a boiler for warm water and a ground heat exchanger to provide pre-heating of outside air in the winter, and cooling in the summer. The installations were equipped with ground heat exchangers, ventilation recuperator units with high-efficiency heat recovery and high-efficiency air heat pumps for heating, domestic and air-conditioning purposes. The design assumptions included the use of significantly thicker insulation on the ventilation ducts than the regulatory standards envisage as well as the construction of ducts in a very high leakage class.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:

In the office part of the building in question, recuperator units equipped with high efficiency heat pumps were used to ensure ventilation of the premises and heating in the winter. The air is preheated by glycol exchangers, whose lower heat source is the ground, while the same exchangers cool the inlet air in the summer. Such preconditioned air is transferred to the recuperator units, where it is further processed thermally in a heat recovery exchanger and, if necessary, heat pump heater. This system is the only heat source for the office space in this building. Due to the construction of a passive building, this installation ensures the correct comfort of the facility and minimal costs of heating and cooling. The manufacturing hall was also built to a passive standard, which enabled installation of a ventilation and air conditioning system that ensures constant thermal comfort of the space and a proper air microclimate. Ventilation based on recuperator units equipped with high efficiency heat recovery exchangers (as in the office space) are equipped with initial glycol exchangers with lower ground source. Their task is two-fold: to heat in the winter and to cool intake air in the summer. Heating and cooling are based on a VRF heat pump that also provides heat for heating water for sanitary purposes. The entrance gates of the manufacturing hall are equipped with cold air curtains which protect the space from excessive infiltration of external air when they are open. All ventilation and air conditioning units are incorporated into a collective building automation system that allows for the synchronisation and operation of equipment from one service station.

RESULT:

Daily use: 44 people · 5 l/person/day + 10 people · 21 l/person/day = 430 l/day

A 300l tank was selected

The system is able to heat excess volume (130 l) during the working day

Low energy demand: 15 kWh/m2

USER:

As a user of the building, I can confirm the comfort associated with its operation and daily use. The proposed solution is definitely good in practice – the choice of equipment and temperature adjustment by the CentroClima engineers provide a climate-friendly working environment.

SUPERVISION:

Magdalena Szczerba, Investor’s Supervision Inspector.

I recall the entire project as a positive experience – above all, thanks to the reliability and professional approach of CentroClima. My responsibilities were consequently limited to controlling whether the works were executed in compliance with the applicable standards and technical requirements, which were met in every respect. I definitely recommend!
