CHALLENGE:

Installation of heating and cooling systems in the building. Ensuring adequate air exchange, temperature and humidity levels in the rooms according to the requirements and current standards and legal regulations.

SOLUTION:

The building’s air conditioning and heating systems are based on VRF units manufactured by Midea. The system is comprised of: internal units supplying hot or cold air according to need, and external units equipped with compressors that produce cold or hot air. External units in the winter produce the heat from the heating process – they are warmed up by warm water, which was previously prepared in a heating node fed from an urban heating network to cool the aggregates. In the summer, heat from the external units is discharged by dry-coolers located on the roof. Each storey is operated by a separate set of external units located at roof level in the engine room. Internal units are located in suspended ceilings and are adapted to work with reed switches. The internal units (evaporators) are controlled by wall-mounted control units located in the same room. The entire VRF system may be controlled from a central control unit located on the ground floor. The central control unit allows for a quick overview of an evaporator’s settings, which may be changed without the need to change the pre-set parameters in each room. The temperature is regulated by wall-mounted operator panels located in each separate room.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:

The aim of this system installation was to provide proper air exchange in the rooms, as well as to maintain proper temperature and humidity. The ventilation system was divided into sections according to the buildings functional layout. Four supply-exhaust systems were designed: NW1, NW2, NW4, NW6, as well as exhaust systems from a fume hood and spot extraction points. The air is preconditioned by Frapol ventilation central units within a supply-exhaust system before being supplied to the building. The central units are located on the rooftop. Due to differences in heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, the system will precondition the air, that is the temperature of air supplied in the summer is 24oC and 20oC in the winter, while humidity is at 40%. Excess heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter are compensated for by the Midea air conditioning units located in each room. Excess humidity is removed by a freon radiator in the central unit and air conditioning units in the individual rooms. Depending on the room type, the air is supplied and discharged through ventilation grills or diffusers. In order to reduce noise emitted by the system, silencers are installed in the ventilation ducts. Air flow is controlled through dampers mounted in the ventilation ducts and by inlet and outlet grills.

Sławomir Górcak, head of sanitary division

The implementation of the heating and cooling system in the premises of the Voivodship Environmental Protection Inspectorate in Cracow was a challenging task and CentroClima tackled this professionally. During the installation, the team of engineers and technicians proved to be reliable so that the project was completed successfully and on time. I cannot recommend cooperation with CentroClima more!

Work at the creation of a modern research center brought a lot of satisfaction, the more so because the scope of activities was very wide: from the installation of precision air conditioning to ventilation with air humidifiers.
